Al Samha Abu Dhabi Washing Machine Repair
How to Repair Your Washing Machine
One day your washing machine was faithfully cleaning your clothes, and you barely even gave its operation a second thought. Then, any number of scenarios occurred. Perhaps the machine's basin fills with water but it will not drain. Or it drains but does not spin. Or the clothes are washed but are not very clean. In short, your washing machine does not work at its peak performance or has entirely stopped working.
For a machine that works so hard, it is hardly surprising that your clothes washerwill occasionally break down or its performance will degrade to the point where the clothes are not getting sufficiently clean. Instead of calling in an expensive appliance technician, you can repair your washing machine by yourself. Most of these repairs require only simple tools and can be performed by homeowners who have only limited appliance repair skills.
Al Samha Abu Dhabi Washing Machine Repair

نقرتين لعرض الصورة في صفحة مستقلة
Washing Machine Will Not Start
It is the most basic of all washing machine breakdowns: the machine will not start. You have put the clothes in the washing machine basin, pressed the "On" button or turned the dial, and then nothing happens.
  • Check the power cord behind the washer to make sure that it is plugged in. Due to washers' vigorous movements, especially when the load is imbalanced, machines may move. When a machine moves, it may inadvertently unplug the power cord. Cords that have been shortened with ties have no give. In this case, untie the cord to allow for more flexibility.
  • Is the circuit breaker to the washer flipped off? To reset a circuit breaker, find the electrical service panel. Locate the correct circuit breaker, flip it in the "Off" direction, and then back to the "On" position.
  • Your front loader washer's lid switch strike may be faulty. This is the area of the door frame that communicates to the machine that the door is properly closed and it is okay to begin filling with water. Close the lid and watch as the part on the door connects with the part on the machine. The top part should seat into the bottom part.
  • Your top loader washer's lid switch may be faulty. You can test this by setting the machine to "On" and then pushing into the hole with the blunt end of a pen. If working correctly, the water should begin filling even though the lid is open.

Washing Machine Does Not Adequately Clean the Clothes
This may be one of the more frustrating clothes washer problems because you notice it only after running the clothes through a full cycle. After washing your clothing, you remove it and find your supposedly clean clothes covered in lint, hair, and other light debris.
    • Avoid overloading your washer. An overly full washer does not have enough space for the clean rinse water to pull out the detergent and debris. Consult your owner's manual for specific load maximums.
    • Use less detergent. Too much detergent can redeposit lint and other debris back on the clothing, rather than pulling it out.
    • Wash pet-related items such as blankets, cat and dog beds, and chew toysseparately from the rest of the clothing. If the pet load is especially dirty, clean the washing machine tub by hand after the wash. Ghantoot Abu Dhabi Washing Machine Repair
Washing Machine Will Not Spin
With this all-too-common washing machine problem, the basin has drained of water but it refuses to spin. Spinning at a high rate of speed is the action that squeezes water out of the clothing so that it can be dried in the dryer.
    • Try to redistribute the clothing within the washing machine tub. When the washer is out of balance, it will automatically stop until you can get the clothing back in balance. After redistributing the clothing, close the lid again. The machine should start spinning automatically if the load distribution is correct. Loads that include high-absorption materials like towels, sheets, and thick clothing like jeans and sweaters often become imbalanced.
    • Check the machine's level on the floor. An out-of-level machine will stop spinning; this action is programmed into your clothes washer for safety. Check the machine's level with a bubble level and bring the machine back to level by adjusting the legs.
    • Check the drainage and the drain hose. Small items may clog up the machine's drainage system. You may be able to check the washer's drain pump without removing it. Finally, the drainage hose that leads from the back of the machine to a drainage point may be clogged.
Washing Machine Makes Loud Noises
One of the more annoying washing machine problems is when the washer makes thumping, grinding, or thunking noises during the agitation or spin cycles. Repair this problem as soon as possible, since the errant movement can damage the washer and create new problems.
    • The tub bearings, located directly below the tub, may be worn out and in need of replacement.
    • If the washing machine is making a squeaking sound, the tub bearings may need lubrication.
    • The washing machine motor drive belt or pulley may be worn out. This is a rather involved repair, where you need to take apart a significant section of the machine in order to get to the motor.
    • The pump pulley belt may be cracked, frayed or otherwise out of shape. Often the belt will smell like burning rubber, too.

Washing Machine Will Not Agitate
One common problem associated with washing machines: The machine's basin or tub fills with water but the central agitator does not move.
    • Agitation is the back and forth motion that cleans the clothing. This action is performed by the central plastic cone-shaped device called the agitator. Small plastic directional cogs (also known as "dogs") connect the upper portion of the agitator with the bottom portion. Open the lid while the machine is in agitation mode. Depress the lid switch with the blunt end of a pen so that the machine does not stop while the lid is open. If the machine is making normal sounds of agitation or even a grinding noise, yet the agitator is not moving, the cogs may be worn down or broken and in need of replacement.
    • Your machine's washer motor may have been affected by a power spike and needs to be reset. All brands have different reset procedures; check your owner's manual for possible information about motor resetting. For example, many General Electric washing machines require you to unplug the machine, plug it back in, then lift and lower the lid six times within 12 seconds, raising the lid a minimum of two inches in order to break the lid switch magnetic connection. Al Salam Street Abu Dhabi Washing Machine Repair
Washing Machine Fills With Water But Will Not Drain
Many homeowners have had the unpleasant experience of lifting the washing machine lid, only to discover clothes floating in a tub filled with murky gray water. If you catch the machine early enough, the water is still hot or lukewarm.
    • Your machine's pump may be clogged with a piece of fabric or some other item related to washing. Bail the water out with a kitchen measuring cup and then unplug the machine. Take off the screws on the front panel. Tilt the machine up and prop the front of the machine on two-by-fours or bricks for easier access. Your machine's pump housing may be easily visible, making it simple to assess whether you have a clog in the pump. If so, use pliers to gently untwist the clog from the pump.
    • Alternatively, the clog may be located in the corrugated tube that leads to the pump. Unclamp the tube. Have a bucket or bin nearby, because this tube will be filled with water. Drain the water. If there is a clog in the hose, it will usually be at the end of the hose. Pull it out by hand or with pliers.
Washing Machine Vibrates and Shakes Too Much
When your washing machine is running, particularly during the spin cycle, it may violently shake or vibrate, often so much that the machine "walks." This may be pronounced if you have a high-efficiency machine, which has a faster spin cycle than top loading machines.
    • Your machine may need to be rebalanced. Use a bubble level to assess the level of the machine from side-to-side and front-to-back. Readjust the machine's level by turning the machine's legs up or down. Unlike the dryer, which has just two front adjustable legs, most washing machines have four adjustable legs.
    • With stacking washer-dryer combinations, the connection straps may have loosened, causing the unit to shake violently. This can be a dangerous situation, since the dryer may fall off of the washer. Tighten the connection straps or replace if necessary.
    • The classic and most easily fixable cause of a shaking clothes washer is an unbalanced load. Drape long, heavy items around the central agitator so that they are not grouped on one side. Move large items to the other side of equally large items.
    • Consider purchasing an anti-vibration pad. Independently testing has shown that pads that are three inches thick do an excellent job of deadening the shaking and vibration. While not inexpensive, these pads can be a valuable tool for reducing the transmission of washer vibration to your home.

Jebel Ali 1 Dubai Washing Machine Repair

Top-loading
The top loading, vertical axis cloth washer, is the dominant design in the United States and Canada. This design places the clothes in a vertically mounted perforated basket that is contained within a water-retaining tub, with a finned water-pumping agitator in the center of the bottom of the basket. Clothes are loaded through the top of the machine, which is usually but not always covered with a hinged door.

نقرتين لعرض الصورة في صفحة مستقلة

During the wash cycle, the outer tub is filled with water sufficient to fully immerse and suspend the clothing freely in the basket. The movement of the agitator pushes water outward between the paddles towards the edge of the tub. The water then moves outward, up the sides of the basket, towards the center, and then down towards the agitator to repeat the process, in a circulation pattern similar to the shape of a torus. The agitator direction is periodically reversed, because continuous motion in one direction would just lead to the water spinning around the basket with the agitator rather than the water being pumped in the torus-shaped motion. Some washers supplement the water-pumping action of the agitator with a large rotating screw on the shaft above the agitator, to help move water downwards in the center of the basket.
Since the agitator and the drum are separate and distinct in a top-loading washing machine, the mechanism of a top-loader is inherently more complicated than a front-loading machine. Manufacturers have devised several ways to control the motion of the agitator during wash and rinse separately from the high speed rotation of the drum required for the spin cycle. Jebel Ali 1 Dubai Washing Machine Repair
While a top-loading washing machine could use a universal motor or DC brushless motor, it is conventional for top-loading washing machines to use more expensive, heavy, and more electrically efficient and reliable induction motors. The action of a front-loading washing machine is better suited to a motor capable of reversing direction with every reversal of the wash basket; a universal motor is noisier, less efficient, doesn't last as long, but is better suited to the task of reversing direction every few seconds.
An alternative to the oscillating agitator design is the impeller type washtub pioneered by Hoover on its long running Hoovermatic series of top loading machines. Here, an impeller (trademarked by Hoover as a "Pulsator") mounted on the side of the tub spins in a constant direction, and creates a fast moving current of water in the tub which drags the clothes through the water along a toroidal path. The impeller design has the advantage of its mechanical simplicity - a single speed motor with belt drive is all that is required to drive the Pulsator with no need for gearboxes or complex electrical controls, but has the disadvantage of lower load capacity in relation to tub size. Hoovermatic machines were made mostly in twin tub format for the European market - (where they competed with Hotpoint's Supermatic line which used the oscillating agitator design) until the early 1990s. Some industrial garment testing machines still use the Hoover wash action. Al Qusais Second Dubai washing machine repair
The many different ways different manufacturers have solved the same problem over the years is a good example of many different ways to solve the same engineering problem with different goals, different manufacturing capabilities and expertise, and different patent encumbrances.
Reversible motor
In most current top-loading washers, if the motor spins in one direction, the gearbox drives the agitator; if the motor spins the other way, the gearbox locks the agitator and spins the basket and agitator together. Similarly, if the pump motor rotates one way it recirculates the sudsy water; in the other direction it pumps water from the machine during the spin cycle. Mechanically, this system is very simple.
Mode-changing transmission
In some top loaders, the motor runs only in one direction. During agitation, the transmission converts the rotation into the alternating motion driving the agitator. During the spin cycle, the timer turns on a solenoid which engages a clutch locking the motor's rotation to the wash basket, providing a spin cycle. General Electric's very popular line of Filter-Flo (seen to the right) used a variant of this design where the motor reversed only to pump water out of the machine. The same clutch which allows the heavy tub full of wet clothes to "slip" as it comes up to the motor's speed, is also allowed to "slip" during agitation to engage a Gentle Cycle for delicate clothes.
Whirlpool (Kenmore) created a popular design demonstrating the complex mechanisms which could be used to produce different motions from a single motor with the so-called "wig wag" mechanism, which was used for decades until modern controls rendered it obsolete. In the Whirlpool mechanism, a protruding moving piece oscillates in time with the agitation motion. Two solenoids are mounted to this protruding moving piece, with wires attaching them to the timer. During the cycle, the motor operates continuously, and the solenoids on the "wig wag" engage agitation or spin. Despite the wires controlling the solenoids being subject to abrasion and broken connections due to their constant motion and the solenoids operating in a damp environment where corrosion could damage them, these machines were surprisingly reliable.
Reversible motor with mode-changing transmission
Some top-loaders, especially compact apartment-sized washers, use a hybrid mechanism. The motor reverses direction every few seconds, often with a pause between direction changes, to perform the agitation. Spin cycle is accomplished by engaging a clutch in the transmission. A separate motorized pump is generally used to drain this style of machine. These machines could easily be implemented with universal motors or more modern DC brushless motors, but older ones tend to use a capacitor-start induction motor with a pause between reversals of agitation. Al Barsha First Dubai Washing Machine Repair
Top-load advantages
The top-loader's spin cycle between washing and rinsing allows an extremely simple passive fabric softener dispenser, which operates through centrifugal force and gravity. Fabric softener, vinegar, or any other liquid rinse agent, is placed in a cup at the top of the agitator. It "rides along" during the wash cycle. When the spin cycle is engaged, the fabric softener is pulled up by a tapered cup and centrifugal force, where it collects in the top of the spinning agitator. Once the spin cycle is completed, centrifugal force no longer suspends the fabric softener and it falls through the center of the agitator to join the rinse water coming into the tub. The same objective must be accomplished by a solenoid valve or a pump, and associated timer controls and wiring, on a front loader.
A lint trap can also be built into the center of the agitator,or on the drum's walls, passively collecting lint from water forced through the agitator. Front-loaders tend to require separate pumps and plumbing to provide lint filters which are often mounted behind covers on the bottom of the machine.
Another advantage to the top loading design is the reliance on gravity to contain the water, rather than potentially trouble-prone or short-lived front door seals. Top loaders may require less periodic maintenance, since there is no need to clean a door seal or bellows, although a plastic tub may still require a periodic "maintenance wash" cycle (described below).
As with front-loading washers, clothing should not be packed tightly into a top-loading washer. Although wet fabric usually fits into a smaller space than dry fabric, a dense wad of fabric can restrict water circulation, resulting in poor soap distribution and incomplete rinsing. Extremely overloaded top-loading washers can either jam the motion of the agitator, overloading or damaging the motor or gearbox, burning drive belts, or tearing fabrics - many Whirlpool/Kenmore machines even have a mechanical "fuse" designed to break before the expensive motor is damaged. Extreme overloading can also push fabrics into the small gap between the underside of the agitator and the bottom of the wash basket, resulting in fabrics wrapped around the agitator shaft, possibly requiring agitator removal to unjam.
Some top-loading machines use mechanisms very similar to front-loading drum machines, and are described below.

Electrolux Washing Machine Repair Abu Dhabi
If you've gotten this far and your washer is still broken, don't give up now. We're only getting started, and your laundry isn't going anywhere. we'll discuss why it may just be bad timing.
The timer controls most of the operations of the washer: water level, tub filling and emptying, length of cycles and cycle-setting sequences. For this reason, any repairs to the timer should be made by a professional service person. However, there are a couple of checks you can make yourself when you suspect the timer is faulty. Al Rahba Abu Dhabi Washing Machine Repair

Step 1: Unplug the washer. To access the timer, remove the control knobs and the panel that covers the controls. This is usually the same control panel we discussed earlier, but may also be accessed be through a panel at the back of the unit. Carefully examine the wires that connect the timer to the other parts of the washer. If the wires are loose or disconnected, try pushing them into position; they usually fit into their terminals like plugs. Use long-nosed pliers to push them into position in order to avoid breaking the wire connections -- never pull a wire by hand.

Step 2: To test the timer, use a volt/ohm meter (VOM) set to the RX1 scale. The RX1 scale is the lowest and should be the default setting of the meter. Disconnect the power leads to the timer and clip one probe of the VOM to each lead. The VOM should read zero if the timer is working. Since the timer is a multipurpose switch, turn it through its cycle and test each pair of terminals in turn. The meter should read zero at all of these points. If one or more readings are above zero, the timer is faulty and should be replaced.
Step 3: To replace the timer, unscrew and disconnect the old one. Install a new timer made specifically for the washing machine. Disconnect the old wires one at a time, connecting each corresponding new wire as you work to make sure the connections are properly made. After all the wires are connected, check the connections again for correctness and screw the timer assembly into place.
Now we're having some serious fun! Actually, you're probably thinking about which is more painful, reading about laundry or actually doing it. Take heart -- we're approaching the spin cycle and you'll be done soon.
If your washer is overflowing or is excessively noisy, the tips on this page may be able to help you solve your problem.
If the washer won't fill or fills very slowly, if it overfills, or if the water is the wrong temperature, the water inlet valves could be faulty. These components are easy to locate and very easy to replace, at little cost. When you suspect an inlet valve is broken, first check to make sure the water faucets are fully turned on and properly connected to the hot and cold inlets of the valves. Then check the screens in the valves; if they're clogged, clean or replace them. If water doesn't enter the tub, set the temperature control to the HOT setting. If there is no water, set the control to the WARM setting. If all that comes out is cold water, the hot-water inlet valve is not working. Reverse the procedure to test the cold-water valve, setting the control first on COLD and then on WARM. If the tub overfills, unplug the washer. If water still flows into the tub, the valve is stuck open. In any of these cases, the valves should probably be replaced.

Here's how to check the valve assembly:
Step 1: Remove the back service panel and disconnect the hot-water and cold-water hoses to the valves.
Step 2: Remove the hoses connected to the valves inside the cabinet. Also disconnect the wires from the terminals. Back out the screws holding the valves to the machine. The inlet valves have solenoids (a coil of wire that carries a current) inside the housing.
Step 3: Tap the solenoids with a screwdriver handle. If this doesn't work, replace the entire inlet valve assembly. Install it in the reverse order of the way you disconnected the old one.
If laundry is torn during the wash cycle, feel around the tub. If you find a rough spot, you may be able to smooth it with an emery board or light sandpaper. If this doesn't work -- or if you have to cut to bare metal to remove the roughness -- the tub should be replaced. In this case, it's probably much wiser to replace the entire washer.
You've probably noticed, but now we're getting into the really sticky problems. By now, the weekend warriors have abandoned all hope and are strolling through the aisles of Home Depot. But not you. In the next section, we'll test your mettle with more miscellaneous mechanical gobbledygook.

Agitate This: Servicing the Agitator

The agitator -- the finned part that fits on the tub shaft -- can also tear laundry if the fins are cracked or broken. You may be able to solve the problem temporarily by pinching off the splinters with pliers and lightly filing the plastic smooth, but this is just a stopgap measure; the agitator should be replaced. Replace a damaged agitator with a new one of the same type. To do this, unscrew the cap on top of the agitator. With the cap off, pull straight up on the agitator; it should lift off. If it doesn't move, rap its side with a hammer. If it still won't lift off, drive wedges under the bottom rim of the agitator to dislodge it. Then, set the new agitator into place and replace the agitator cap.
Damage to the snubber, a pad-like device sometimes located under the agitator cap, can cause the machine to vibrate excessively. The snubber may have a suspension spring in it. Lift off the agitator cap and examine the snubber. If the spring is broken, or if the pad is visibly worn, replace the entire snubber. Snubbers might also be found at the top of the tub, under the transmission, or as part of the water-pump housing. Look around until you see it. GE Washing Machine Repair Abu Dhabi

If the machine doesn't have a snubber, listen for noise at the suspension unit between the tub and the machine cabinet. The suspension unit has fins or pads that may need replacement. In some cases, the entire unit may have to be replaced. Another noise point is the basket support nut, which holds the basin in place. You can imagine what kind of punishment that sucker takes. Tighten the nut or, if you can't tighten it, replace it.
Sudden tub stops can be caused by a broken motor belt, but they are usually due to poor tub loading. Check to see if wet laundry is wadded around the bottom of the tub shaft, or under the basket or agitator assembly. Remove the basket or agitator in order to remove the laundry easily.
Next, we'll take a look at water-related problems, starting with troubleshooting water leaks.
Troubleshooting Water Leaks

Water leaks in a washer are often difficult to trace. The problem could be a loose connection, a broken hose, a cracked component or a defective seal. It could also be a hole in the tub. If that's the culprit, it's usually best to replace the washer.
Tightening water connections can eliminate most leaks. Here's how to do it:
Step 1: Check the lid seal. If faulty, replace with a new gasket.
Step 2: Check the hoses at faucet connections. Tighten connections or replace hoses.
Step 3: Check the hoses at water valve connections. Tighten connections or replace hoses.
Step 4: Check the drain hoses. Tighten connections or replace hoses.
Step 5: Check the inlet nozzles. Tighten connections or replace nozzles.
Step 6: Check the splash guard. Tighten connections or replace.
Step 7: Check any plastic valve. Tighten connections or replace.
Step 8: Check the outlet hose to drain. Tighten connections or replace hose.
Step 9: Check the water pump, using the procedures that follow on the next page
Now that you've checked the most likely sources for a water leak, you can reasonably rule out that as the culprit. On the following pages, we will cover tips for servicing the water pump, the belts and pulleys, and the motor.
Pump Problems: Servicing the Water Pump

Take the pump apart and clean away all debris inside it. Clear away debris from the water tubes, too.
HOWSTUFFWORKS
Of all washing machine parts, the water pump probably takes the most punishment because it's constantly in use. When the pump fails, you can hear or see the trouble: a loud rumbling inside the machine, or a failure of the water to drain out of the tub. Here's what you can do to fix the problem:
Step 1: Check the drain hoses to make sure they're draining properly. Remove the water supply hoses from the back of the washer. With long-nosed pliers, extract the filter screens from the valve ports in the washer or from the hoses themselves. These screens keep debris from collecting in the hoses and can become clogged. Wash the screens thoroughly. Then, replace them and reattach the hoses. If the machine still rumbles or doesn't drain, examine the pump.
Step 2: To access the pump, first bail and sponge out any water in the machine's tub. Then tip the washer over on its front, using a heavy blanket or pad to protect the washer's finish. Remove the back service panel. The pump is usually located along the bottom of the machine, but with the unit tipped on its front, it's easier to remove the pump through the back than through the bottom of the washer.
Step 3: Locate the pump. It has two large hoses attached to it with spring or strap clips. If the clips are the spring type, pinch the ends of the clips together with pliers to release them, and slide the clips down the hoses. If the hoses are kinked or crimped at these connections, straighten them as best you can and reconnect them. Then, try the machine again to see if this kinking was causing the problem. If the machine still doesn't drain, you'll have to remove the water pump.
Step 4: To remove the pump, loosen the bolt that holds the drive belt taut and move the washer motor on the bracket to loosen the belt. Move the motor out of the way and unbolt the pump. As you loosen the last mounting bolt, support the pump with your hand. Then, lift the pump out of the washer.
Step 5: You should take the pump apart if you can because the trouble could be lint, dirt or pieces of cloth. Clean away all debris inside the pump and clear any debris out of the water tubes. Reassemble and hook up the pump again and test it. If cleaning the pump doesn't put it back into working order, or if the pump housing can't be removed, replace the pump with a new one of the same kind.
Step 6: To install the new pump, set it into position and connect the mounting bolts to the pump housing. Move the motor back into position. Tighten the drive belt (the rubber belt that connects two shafts of the motor) by prying it taut with a hammer handle or pry bar; it should give about 1/2 inch when you press on it at the center point between the two pulleys.
Step 7: Reconnect the hoses leading to the pump.
If the pump's not your problem, other mechanical issues may be afoot. If your belts and pulleys are to blame, find out how to fix them on the next page. Electrolux Washing Machine Repair Abu Dhabi
Belts and Pulleys and Motors, Oh My!

The drive belt (or belts) of a washing machine may become worn or damaged, causing noisy operation or stopping the washer entirely. Fortunately, a damaged drive belt is easy to replace. Remove the back panel of the washer to gain access to the belt and then follow these steps to remove it:
Step 1: Loosen the bolt on the motor bracket and move the motor to put slack in the belt. The motor bracket is a simple metal brace that holds the motor housing in place.

Step 2: Remove the old belt and stretch a new one into place on the pulleys.
Step 3: To put tension on the new belt, use a hammer handle or a short pry bar to push the motor into position while you tighten the bolt in the adjustable bracket. The belt should have about 1/2 inch deflection, or give, when you press on it at the center point, midway between the pulleys. If the belt is too loose, it will slip on the pulleys, causing the machine to malfunction. If the belt is too tight, it will wear very quickly and will probably become so hot that it will start to smoke or smell.
Loose pulleys can also cause problems. Most pulleys are fastened to shafts with setscrews around the hub of the pulley. Remember, setscrews do not have heads so you might have to look closely to see them. These screws must be tight, or else the pulley or belt will slip. The resulting malfunction may seem to be caused by a faulty motor, but it can be corrected by tightening the pulleys and adjusting the belt. For this reason, always check the belts and pulleys before working on the motor.
In most cases, motor malfunctions should be handled by a professional; do not try to fix the motor yourself. If the motor is a universal model, however, you can change worn carbon brushes when sparking occurs, as detailed in How to Repair Appliances. To save yourself the expense of a service call, remove the motor from the washer and take it to a professional service person, then reinstall the repaired or new motor yourself. To access the motor, remove the back panel of the washer. The motor is mounted on an adjustable bracket.
As you can see, washing machines are complicated appliances with lots of moving parts. However, washers typically last around 12 years, which is not too shabby [source: Appliance.net]. With the troubleshooting tips in this article, you should be able to squeeze a few more years out of your machine and get cranking out loads of clean laundry in no time.

How to Fix a Washer That Won't Drain
When a washer won't drain, it's usually because there's a clog or the pump is broken. If you figure out what's causing the issue, you may be able to fix it yourself. To find out what's preventing your washer from draining, you'll need to access the parts of your machine to check for damage or clogs. Then, you can clear out any clogs or replace the broken parts.
Al Reef Abu Dhabi Washing Machine Repair
Diagnosing Your Problem
1-Depress your lid switch with your hand to make sure it works. Your washing machine won't drain if it thinks the lid is open. To check if the lid sensor is broken, find the piece on your lid that presses down when the lid closes. Then, press this switch down and listen for a click or check for a "lid closed" light on your washing machine, depending on your model. If your switch doesn't seem to be working, you may have a broken lid switch that needs replacing.
  • You can order a switch online or buy one at an appliance store. Alternatively, hire a repairman to replace the switch for you.

2-Unplug the washer to prevent electrocution before checking other parts. Shift your washer away from the wall so you can access the power cord. Carefully pull the cord out of the socket so that the washer isn't connected to a power source. This will limit your risk of getting electrocuted while you work on the machine.
    • Don't try to handle the water in the machine until it's unplugged. You probably don't need to worry, but it's best to be safe.

3-Use a bucket or pot to remove the water from the washer. You need to drain the machine before you can work on it. First, remove any clothing that's still in the washer drum. Then, use a plastic bucket or large pot to scoop the water out of the machine. Pour the water down the sink or bathtub to dispose of it.
  • This is typically the easiest way to remove water if you're new to home repairs.
  • Place your clothes in a large container, the sink, or the bathtub. They'll likely be sopping wet, so they can damage some surfaces, such as your flooring.

4-Check if your washing machine's access panel is in the front or back. Your pump will be at the bottom of your washer on either the front or the back. Typically, you'll see 2 small screws at the bottom of the front panel of your washer if it's accessible in the front. If you don't see these 2 screws, your machine is likely accessible from the back.
  • Typically, top loading washers are more likely to be accessible from the front.

5-Remove the lower screws on the side you can access. Use your screwdriver to carefully unscrew each of the screws. Place the screws in a safe spot so you can replace them later. As you remove the screws, hold the panel in place so it doesn't fall off before you're ready.
  • These screws are typically at the corners of the panel near the bottom of the machine.

6-Lift the bottom of the panel to unhook the top and remove it. Grasp the bottom of the panel with both hands, then slowly lift it forward. As you lift, the top portion of the panel should unhook from the top of the machine. When it does, carefully remove the panel and set it aside.
  • The panel will likely feel heavy, so make sure you have a good grip on it.

7-Check the grey drain hose for kinks or damage. You should see 3 hoses attached to the back of your washer. The drain hose will be grey, while the hot water is red and the cold water is blue. Look at the grey hose to see if it looks dented, crushed, or bent, which will make it hard for the washer to drain. If it's damaged, straighten out the hose or get a replacement from a home improvement store.
  • If you don't notice any damage, you might have a clog or another damaged part.

8-Look at the bottom of the washer for a plastic pump attached to the drain pipe. The pump is always at the base of the machine, typically at the back or front so you can easily access it. The pump will be round and cylindrical with a base, and you'll see the grey drain pipe coming out of it. Additionally, it'll have a hose attached to it. Typically, this pump is clear or white. However, your pump may be a different color depending on the model.
  • If you have your owner's manual, it should have a picture of the pump that you can use as a reference.

9-Check the pump and surrounding hose for a clog. Carefully disconnect the hose from the pump to look for a clog. Look inside both the pump and the hose to search for clogs. If you don't see a clog, insert your fingers to feel for one. The clog will likely be something like a small piece of clothing or a wad of lint. However, it could also be something small like a button or coin.
  • If your pump is clear, you may be able to see the clog through the plastic.
  • Water may leak out of the hose or the pump when you disconnect them.

Tip: You may want to put a clamp on the drain hose where it connects to the washer so that it doesn't leak more water while you check the hose and pump. You can find hose clamps at your local home improvement store. Umm Hurair Second Dubai Washing Machine Repair

10-Check your pump for damage if there's no clog. If you can't find a clog anywhere, insert your fingers into the pump to see if the spinning mechanism or any other pieces feel broken or damaged. Look over the entire surface of the pump to check for cracks, warps, or broken pieces. If your pump appears damaged, you'll need to replace it.
  • If you're not sure what the pump is supposed to look like, this can be tricky. You can use the illustration of the pump in your manual as a reference, but it may be best to call in a professional.

11-Listen for weird sounds or leaks coming from your pump. Usually, a damaged pump will make a weird sound or leak onto the floor before it breaks. It may continue to do this after it's damaged, depending on the problem. If you're worried your pump is damaged, turn on your washer and monitor it for a noise or leaks.
  • If you've been hearing a weird sound during your previous washes, it's safe to assume something could be wrong with the pump. Call a plumber or handyman to find out for sure.

Removing a Clog
1-Grasp a visible clog with needle-nose pliers to pull it out. Insert your pliers into the pump or hose. Then, latch the end of the pliers onto the item clogging your drain. Slowly begin to tug the item out of the pump or hose.
  • Go slowly so that you don't break up the clog or damage the pump. It's possible that a clog inside your pump is wrapped around the spinning mechanism inside the pump.
  • It's usually easier to remove a clog from the hose. It should slide out easily if you just pull.

2-Find the pulley under the pump and twist it to help unwind the clog. Feel below your machine to find a small pulley that's directly below the pump. This pulley will turn the spinning mechanism inside the pump. As you pull a clog out of the pump, turn the pulley counterclockwise to help unwind the clog.
  • Turning the pulley will help you avoid damaging the pump.
  • If turning your pump counterclockwise isn't helping, try turning it clockwise instead.

3-Use a plumber's snake to remove a clog from a hose. Detach the pipe and hold 1 end while you place the other in a bucket. Insert the end of the plumber's snake into the hose. Ease it deeper into the pipe until you reach the clog. Then, use your hands to manually turn the snake as you push it through the clog. You should see the clog drop into the bucket.
  • After you remove the clog, water that was stuck in the pipe may pour out into the bucket.

4-Reconnect your hose to the pump after you've removed the clog. Slide the hose back over the opening on your pump, then secure it in place. Check to make sure that it isn't loose. Otherwise, the hose may leak while the machine is on.
  • Make sure that you haven't created any kinks in the hose while you were working on it. If there are kinks, it could prevent your washer from draining.

5-Plug up your machine and see if it works. Test out your machine before you put the panel back on it. First, lower your machine back onto the floor if you lifted it. Next, put the power cord back into the socket. Then, set your washer on the rinse cycle and turn it on. Let the washer run through a rinse and spin cycle to see if it drains.
  • If it's still not draining, it's possible there's a clog you can't get to or that the pump is damaged. It's best to get a plumber or handyman to look at it.

6-Replace your access panel if your machine is fixed. Unplug the machine again before you replace the panel. Then, grasp the panel near the bottom and slowly lift the top part into place. Hook the top of the panel onto the top part of the washer, then lower the panel into place. Finally, reinsert the screws at the corners.
